It’s Cold & Flu Season Y’all

In the sea of constant media coverage of the Coronavirus, let’s not forget that it is the Cold and Flu Season

This means it’s naturally a time to be diligent about protecting yourself against germs, virus and other illnesses. And before you say to yourself, it’s better to stay home, remember illnesses can be lurking at your neighborhood store as well. The better thought is to take action and the right measures to protect yourself. And doing so takes just a few basic steps.

WASH YOUR HANDS OFTEN

The CDC recommends doing so for at least 20 seconds.

  • Before, during, and after preparing food
  • Before eating food
  • Before and after caring for someone at home who is sick with vomiting or diarrhea
  • Before and after treating a cut or wound
  • After using the toilet
  • After changing diapers or cleaning up a child who has used the toilet
  • After blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing
  • After touching an animal, animal feed, or animal waste
  • After handling pet food or pet treats
  • After touching garbage

WIPE DOWN SURFACES IN THE AIRPORT AND AIRPLANE

Some viruses can live on indoor surfaces for up to 7 days and survive longer on non-porous surfaces. So, wipe down the armrests, seatbelt, tray tables, and the seatback electronics and pockets. Carry a few disinfectant wipes with you.

COUGH AND SNEEZE INTO YOUR ELBOW NOT YOUR HANDS

Consider this? How many people’s hands have you shaken who have recently sneezed or coughed into them? Yeah, think about that. Which takes me back to # 1 WASH YOUR HANDS OFTEN

CARRY A SMALL BOTTLE OF HAND SANITIZER

While washing your hands is always the best, sanitizers are the next best thing when you’re not near soap and water.

Don’t touch your eyes, nostrils, or mouth especially if you haven’t washed your hands.

STAY HEALTHY AND HYDRATED

Make sure you’re eating plenty of fruits and vegetables, taking your vitamins and drinking plenty of water.

Avoid drinking from public water fountains that are known to carry germs and bacteria and instead carry a refillable water bottle and refill it at a water bottle refilling station.

Yours truly,
